Did you get a new or new-to-you sewing machine? Are you nervous about taking it out of the box or getting started? Would you like a little bit of encouragement as you get started with your machine sewing journey? I’ve been there too, staring at the unopened box with my new machine inside, scared to open it in case I accidentally messed something up. I remember that feeling, so we created a class just for you to get past that nerve-wracking time! 

Come join me for a Meet Your Machine class! We’ll talk about the different parts of your machine, look over your owners manual, and practice some stitching together to help make it less scary.

This class is truly the beginning-est of beginner classes, so it’s a 1 strawberry out of five for difficulty level. 

Each class member will need to provide the following items: 

Your personal sewing machine including an empty bobbin to fill with your new thread 

Scissors or thread snippers

Your class fees include:  

Charm pack of your choice 

A 100 meter/100 yard spool of Gutermann all sew thread of your choice

One hour of instruction and work time 

We will provide:

Access to two pressing stations with shop-provided irons

Your own personal work space with 4 foot table and plastic folding chair

Also available for purchase: 

Bagged snacks

Coca Cola, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Sprite Zero, Arizona Arnold Palmer Tea

Water 

Wool pressing mats

Scissors and thread snippers

Class size is limited to the first ten people with a paid registration. Please arrive 20-30 minutes early to choose your charm pack and thread color. Please make sure to choose and purchase your supplies prior to the beginning of class to maximize your work time.

Intro to Hand Piecing and Quilting With Alma is a four week course that will introduce you to the timeless tradition of quilt making. Alma will teach you, step by step, to design and create a traditional nine patch wall hanging sampler using the same hand stitching techniques passed down to her by her mama when she was just a little girl. 

In the first week, Alma will walk you through the basics of hand stitching, design, and cutting accurately.  In week two, you will practice hand stitching and joining your nine patch blocks. Week three’s class will cover sandwiching your quilt and quilting the sampler.  Your fourth and final class will be spent trimming, binding and finishing your very own wall hanging sampler. 

Class fees include the following:

• A choice of preselected fat quarter packs

• Spool of Gutermann hand quilting thread

• Batting

• Hand quilting needles

• Four class sessions at 2 hours each for a total of eight hours of instruction and work time.

• Access to pressing stations 

• Table and chair work space

For each class session you will need to bring the following: 

• Small scissors or thread nippers

• Rotary cutter, mat, and 18” ruler (12” ruler will work, but 18” is better)

• Thimble

We will also have these items available for purchase in case you forget something:

• Scissors

• Rotary cutter

• Cutting mat

• Ruler

• Thimble

This class series is a beginner level program, rated one strawberry out of five.

Difficulty level: 🍓 

The class will be held in four Saturday morning sessions. The dates will be 10/24, 10/31, 11/7 & 11/14. We open at 10:00 on Saturdays to allow you time to arrive and get settled prior to the start of class. In order to maximize your instruction and work time, and to cut down on distractions, please arrive to the shop between 10:00 and 10:20 to be ready for the start of class at 10:30. 6:00-8:00 pm

In this class you will learn how to piece quilts together using your own sewing machine at a novice level. You will use precut charm packs to assemble this project so little to no cutting will be involved. A functioning knowledge of your own sewing machine and a small amount of your own tools are required for this class making it a level 2 class.

Included in the class fee are two charm packs, one physical pattern card, one spool of thread and the class instruction.
